Robert Douglas Smith, 68, passed peacefully April 5, 2012, embraced with love from his wife and daughters. Born in Birmingham, England to Harry and Esmee Smith, Rob became a toolmaker and worked as an engineer in the automotive industry. He and his family immigrated to Las Vegas in 1976. Rob brought over his love of golf, chess, music, and, of course, soccer. Go Man U!!! He kept his love of the English football club when he proudly swore in as a United States citizen in 2005. A wonderful husband and father, he provided for his family by settling into some of Las Vegas' finest hotels as a bellman. Many of whom he worked beside became great family friends. One month after retiring in June 2010, Rob was diagnosed with brain cancer, Glioblastoma Multiforme stage IV. He fought with great strength, heart and spirit until he passed....a true fighter!! Rob is survived by his loving wife, Pauline; two daughters, Wendy and her husband, William, and daughters Lindsey and Sara, and Lynsey and her "everything", Craig; his grandson and pride and joy, Kristopher Robert; his sister, Pam, her children Mark and Andrew, and their beautiful wives and children. Rob's wishes were to be cremated and his ashes scattered by family. A ceremony will be held privately by family at a later date. In lieu of flowers please send donations to Nevada Cancer Institute and Nathan Adelson Hospice.
Arrangements under the direction of Palm Eastern Mortuary, Las Vegas, NV.
