Successfully battling the ailments of old age and a full life, Roberto “Bob” Salenga passed away at the age of 76 surrounded by his loving family, on the afternoon of Thursday, June 13, 2024, in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Born to a well to do family of Academics in Guagua, Pampanga, Philippines, Roberto’s gregarious and adventurous personality set him off on a journey with the United States Navy, visiting ports of call all over the world. He served during the Vietnam War and was awarded a Purple Heart. He visited Italy, Germany, Puerto Rico, many states, and even drummed for a band in Japan. His was a whirlwind scene plucked from those classic American movies about the Navy. He was proud of his singing, dancing, and joking.
It was in Guam where his exploits ended with an improbable match with the love of his life who also happened to be a single mother of three. His adventurous and happy-go-lucky attitude led to packing them all up to San Diego, where they married and had son Robert and daughter Everett. He became a true military family man.
Roberto’s retirement began in Guam and finally settled in Las Vegas. He continued to enjoy years of happiness with friends and family, relatives and neighbors with celebrations, ballroom dancing, and the good life. He was known by everyone for his singing, dancing, and joking. His gregariousness remained throughout. His last hours were spent surrounded by his closest loved ones.
Roberto is survived by his immediate family—wife, son, daughter, three stepchildren, seven grandchildren, and one great-grandson—as well as his sister Auntie Nene and her family in the Philippines.
