Shahar Lopatin, a proud Israeli-American and devoted son of Holocaust survivors, passed away on April 9, 2026, at the age of 76. A resident of Las Vegas, Nevada, he was born in Szczecin (Stettin), Poland, to Chaya and Reuven-David Lopatin. He was predeceased by his sisters Ania Gabler, Shoshana Gadasi, and brother Avi Lopatin, and is survived by his younger brother Itzik Lopatin.
Raised in the shadow of sacrifice and survival, Shahar carried forward a legacy of quiet strength, perseverance and a deep commitment to helping others.
At a young age, Shahar discovered his life’s calling. During the Six-Day War in 1967, while visiting a friend who had lost both his legs, he witnessed firsthand the transformative power of prosthetics. After immigrating to the United States in 1976, he built a distinguished career in the field and ultimately served as head of prosthetics at Sunny Hills Orthopedic Services in California. Through his skilled hands and compassionate heart, he restored independence to countless individuals, helping them walk again with dignity and hope.
Shahar found joy in life’s simple pleasures. He loved reading and watching spy thrillers, deep-sea fishing in Baja Mexico, and playing poker with his friends. Above all, he cherished his role as a devoted "aba" and "saba", taking immense pride in his family.
He is survived by his loving wife, Segula; his daughters Galit (son-in-law Samuel) and Karin; his sons Guy and David; and his grandsons Max, Joshua, and Jacob, who brought him immense nachas (נחת).
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Wounded Warrior Project.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on April 12, 2026, at King David Memorial Chapel & Cemetery, with burial immediately following.
May his memory be for a blessing.
