Sidney Springs was born on October 30, 1932 in Memphis, Tennessee to Thelma Springs Muffuletto and Paul Victor (both deceased). He grew up with his sister Vivian (deceased) in Memphis where he attended elementary school. Sidney relocated to Chicago with his family, and was a graduate from Chicago Vocational High School (CVS). After high school he enlisted in the U.S. Army and then joined the U. S. Air Force and was stationed in Buffalo, New York where he remained and earned an Honorable Discharge.
Upon returning back to Chicago, Sidney was employed as a city bus driver for the Chicago Transit Authority (CTA) for many years and then began his career as a firefighter and eventually worked with the department of Internal Investigations (IAD). In addition he worked part time for Brinks as a courier where he had the occasion to travel across the country many times. Sidney married his loving wife Antoinette (Toni) in Chicago on June 19, 1976. Sidney and Toni loved traveling. His favorite resort was in Acapulco, Mexico basking in the sun with friends every February for many years. One of Sidney’s past times in Chicago was the race track. He loved the thoroughbreds, studied their abilities and knew each one of them quite well.
After Sidney retired he and Toni relocated to Las Vegas where most of his children and grandchildren resided. He loved Las Vegas because of family and the warmer climate. Sidney continued to play tennis and he loved to barbeque. Sidney enjoyed LIFE; he enjoyed being around people and also known as the “Hospitality Chair of Vegas.” Another favorite past time and love was playing live KENO with the camaraderie of his buddy’s at the Orleans Casino. In addition, he enjoyed dining monthly with friends from the Chicago Connection. Sidney enjoyed relaxing at his home and sitting in his favorite chair watching his news programs on CNN and MSNBC. He was quite the politician; he would talk the talk. Sidney was a “dapper dresser” and was the only person we knew who would lounge at home in clothes that had to be dry cleaned.
Sidney had all the answers and most definitely was the man who told you what to do and how it should be done. He was a cherished husband, father, mentor and confidant and most importantly loved all of us dearly.
Celebrating his life, while mourning his death are his wife Antoinette (Toni), children, Vivian Springs Jackson and (Larry), Sidney P. Springs Jr., Anita Margaret Springs, and (Carl), Tracy Springs Hunter and (Terry), Tonya Weaver, grandchildren, Samantha, Gabriela, Terrance Jr. (TJ), Tai, great grandchildren, Selene and Kyra and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
