Sonia "Nonie" Alvarez entered this life July 22, 1965, in Riverside, Calif., and returned home July 1, 2011, in Las Vegas. Sonia, a graduate of Moreno Valley High School in California, was a resident of Las Vegas for the past 12 years. A nurse, Sonia will be sorely missed by her family, friends and co-workers. Sonia is survived by her father, Ricardo Alvarez of Moreno Valley; sister, Margie Riffe of San Bernardino, Calif; nephew, Gabriel; fiancee, Jim Alegre; two stepsons, whom she loved as her own, Jimmy and Alex; and many aunts, uncles and cousins. "We miss you Sonia! We will always love you and remember you." Sonia was a beautiful woman with a big heart. She had much love and compassion to share, which is why she chose the medical profession as she enjoyed helping people. A celebration of Sonia's life and accomplishments will be 6-8 p.m. Friday, July 22, at Palm Mortuary-Northwest, 6701 N. Jones Blvd. "Thank you family and friends for your prayers, love and support."
