Born to James and Rose McQuade, Susan was raised in Pittsfield, as well as Fort Wayne, Indiana. She received her bachelor’s degree in Education at the University of Massachusetts Amherst. Susan moved to Texas in the early 1980s to begin a career in teaching that would span 34 years. In 198, she completed her master’s degree at the University of Texas in Austin. Moving to San Antonio shortly after, she met and married James Evans in 1989.
Restless for a new adventure, the couple moved to Las Vegas only a week after they were married. Susan finished her first year teaching in Las Vegas when she gave birth to her first son, Ron. A second son, Anthony, followed two years later. Susan continued to teach both elementary and secondary school students until her diagnosis in 2016.
Never failing to put family first, Susan was a dedicated mother, raising two college graduates, an attorney and a biology teacher, respectively. She loved animals, exercise, shopping, and spending time with family and friends. Throughout her cancer battle, Susan was a warrior, never giving in, never giving up. She stayed upbeat through her last days. Her strength survives her, leaving those around her with memories of love and a portrait of strength.
Susan is survived by her husband James; her sons Ron and Anthony; as well as her sister Stephanie and her family.
In lieu of flowers, Susan requested any donations be made to Best Friends Animal Society in Kanab, Utah.
Funeral services will be held at Palm Eastern Mortuary on Sunday, February 23, 2020 at 11:00am. A reception will follow at Palm Eastern Mortuary.
