William George Neumann

William G. Neumann, 83, of Henderson, NV passed away on November 26th, 2015 at Desert Springs Hospital in Las Vegas. He was surrounded by his family as he left this earth for a better place. Bill was born at home on December 12, 1932 in Sparta, Wisconsin to the late Roger and Corinne Hoffman. When he was 3 years old, he was adopted by his grandparents, the late Jake and Rena Neumann. Bill was a high school athlete and enjoyed time spent with friends.

After high school graduation, Bill married his lifelong sweetheart, Catherine Schauf on September 8th, 1951 in St. Patrick’s Church, Sparta. Bill and Cathy moved to California in 1959, starting out near San Diego and ultimately living in Orange County for many years. They adopted two children, Stacy (Rob) and Scott (Karen). Bill loved his family with a kind heart and a generous spirit.

Bill served in the National Guard between the Korean Conflict and Vietnam War. He was a Sergeant First Class in the 32nd Division.

Bill was also friend to many. From his Sparta days with John Button and Stan Woodworth to his California years with Dick and Pat Kiefer, Kris Kristoferson and Archie Moore, Bill always tried to be on hand for the fun. He had a special relationship with his brother in law, the late Chuck Schauf. Many were the times that he and Chuck (and often another brother-in-law or old friend) would make the circuit around the Wisconsin countryside on visits back home.

He worked as an electrical supplies salesman for many years and ultimately retired in 2000 and soon thereafter moved to Henderson, NV. To the surprise of no one who knew him, Bill and Cathy built a strong network of special friends and neighbors there as well.

In retirement, Bill continued to play golf and watched any and all sports as a fan. But his favorite team was always the Green Bay Packers. Bill and Cathy hosted famous Super Bowl parties for their friends in every place they called home. He and Cathy often traveled to Colorado and Wisconsin to spend time with the extended family.

Bill is survived by his wife, Cathy at the family home. He is also survived by his children: Stacy Monahan (Rob) of Grandview, WA and Scott Neumann (Karen) of Costa Mesa, CA. He will always be known as Boppa to grandchildren: Ryan (Jenni) Monahan, Brenna (Tyler) Greenwood, Delaney Monahan, Mackenzie Monahan, Nolan Monahan, David Tran, and Sammi Neumann. He was Great Grandpa to Rylee Monahan. He passed just short of an opportunity to meet Rylee’s little sister Lily.

He was preceded in death by his parents Roger and Corinne Hoffman, his adoptive parents (and grandparents) Jake and Rena Neumann, and his maternal Aunt and Uncle, Stan and Fay Hofman.

Our final goodbyes for Bill will be on Friday, January 22nd at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Henderson, NV. He will rest in Palm Cemetery but will live on in all of our hearts.
