Carmen was the youngest of four children, born June 29, 1926 in Thrall, Texas to Wesley and Grace Jordan Wilson.
She was an avid book reader, cook, and had a genuine talent for telling stories of her childhood. She also loved spending time with her family and friends, whom she loved dearly. Carmen worked for over 27 years for the State Comptroller of Public Accounts. She was proud to tell her family that she was interviewed and hired by the Comptroller himself, Robert S. Calvert. And without any one asking, she would cheerfully say I worked for the Comptroller’s office and I loved my job.
Carmen, also known as Granny/GG by her grandchildren was loved by all. She had the biggest heart, cared for many, and never turned away someone in need.
She is preceded in death by her parents, sisters Maudie and Rossie, brother Vernon, and son-in-law Michael Schafer. She recently lost her beloved dog Precious, who was her constant companion and gave her unconditional love.
She is survived by her two daughters, Jo Frances Abatie and Deborah Marie Schafer. Four grandchildren: Shaun Dungan, wife Anjela, Karie Schafer, Jennifer Forke, husband Clay, Stefanie Schafer, thirteen great-grandchildren, three great-great grandchildren, and numerous nephews and nieces.
A memorial service and celebration of Carmen’s life will be held at three thirty in the afternoon on Sunday, the 20th of March, at Anderson Terrace, 11505 Anderson Mill Road, Austin, Texas. Immediately following will be a reception where friends can gather with the family and share special memories of Carmen.
In lieu of customary remembrances, please consider contributions in her memory to a pet rescue organization of your choice.
We love you a bushel and a peck and a hug around the neck. You bet your purdy neck we do.
