Denise was born January 30,1957, in Wichita Falls, Texas. Peacefully surrounded by her family, she passed away on Sunday, July 11, 2021 in Round Rock, Texas, at the age of 64. Denise will be remembered lovingly by her parents, Bill and Rayma Boggs; son, Barry Cox and his wife, Amber, and son, Daniel Cox and his wife, Elizabeth; grandchildren, Taylor, Bailey, and Brayden Cox, and Audrey Cox; brother, Bruce Boggs, his wife, Serafina, and their children Martino and Mia; as well as extended family and many friends.
Denise lived her life with a bright passion for learning, teaching, and crafting. Growing up in Lubbock, Denise graduated from Coronado High School where she played the clarinet and marched in the band. She was an accomplished nurse educator, obtaining Master’s Degrees in both Education and Nursing and providing nursing education to 100’s of students over more than 30 years. She found purpose in preparing future nurses and offering continuing education to current nurses at Covenant School of Nursing in Lubbock, Texas, and within the Seton Hospital System in Austin, Texas. Nursing was more than just a profession for Denise. Her faith and calling to care for others led her to serve and share God’s love through medical mission trips to Mexico, Kenya and even Ukraine.
Beyond teaching, her bright light and spirit shone forth in the cleverly designed quilts, blankets, scarves, and hats that she generously crafted for many people. Denise’s enthusiasm with teaching and crafting filled the world around her with knowledge, warmth, joy and a lot of color.
Known to many as Nana or Nana Banana, Denise became a “Cancer Ninja” in recent years. Nana Ninja bravely fought multiple myeloma for over eight years. She maintained her positive, sing-songy nature while completing several rounds of standard and experimental treatments. Nana battled the many challenging side effects of these treatments with an undeniable and impressive strength. Denise continued to sing, craft, cuddle with her beloved dogs, and share many laughs with her family and friends into her final days.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, July 17, at 2:00 p.m. at Northpoint Church in Cedar Park. In true Denise fashion, all are encouraged to leave the formal black attire at home and wear colorful, casual clothes as she would have.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Denise’s name to the SAFE Alliance of Austin ( https://www.safeaustin.org/get-involved/donate/donate/ ) or Mobile Loaves and Fishes ( https://mlf.org/ ).
