She was born on November 22, 1931, in Lamesa Texas to Dorothy (Dot) and Harold Hargrove. She was raised in a family with a strong bond, a daughter of a school teacher and a builder. Carol’s family included her two sisters, Theresa and Shirley, and her brother Charles.
She grew up in Seminole TX, and excelled in academics and was so smart that she was able to skip a grade in elementary school and finished high school as class Salutatorian.
While living in Seminole TX, she met the love of her life, Bob Hunter, and they married in 1950. She enjoyed telling of how she climbed out of her house through the window and they eloped and married. They went to the next county and were married, because her mother worked at the local county seat office. Their marriage lasted 72 years, until the passing of Bob, in September of 2022. They had 4 children and resided in Lubbock, until moving to the Austin area in 1970. Later they moved to Fredericksburg and enjoyed their senior years in a slower paced town. She made many friends there, and enjoyed helping others.
She is survived by her sister Shirley, daughters Cindy Hinnman, Dana Burns (spouse Larry), Laura Bauer (spouse Davy), and son Bob Hunter, 11 grand children, and 17 great grand children.
Carol’s life was decorated by her strong love of her family, and especially her husband, Bob. She was a steady beacon as a mother and grandmother, and provided a loving influence to her family. She cared deeply for Bob, and devoted her life to making sure he had a comfortable and stable home life. She thoroughly enjoyed holidays and cooking. Her holiday feasts were a source of great pride to her.
She was active in the Church, and attended regularly. Her faith and commitment were very strong, and her life was guided by her Christian morals.
As Bob’s construction business grew, they moved several times, and Carol developed a knack for interior design. Her home in north Austin reflected many of her influences, and creative mind.
She went back to college in her adult years and earned a Bachelor degree. She used her education and worked for the county as a social worker.
She had many interests, and hobbies. She enjoyed art and painting, and also jewelry making. She taught classes in floral design, and enjoyed making things. She continued to paint and enjoy her art in her latter days. When her right hand faltered, she learned to paint and write left handed.
She suffered a stroke a few years ago, and Bob and Carol’s love and devotion to each other was never stronger. Bob cared for her and her needs, until his health declined and his dementia caused her to be the strong one of the two. She watched over Bob until his passing.
Her funeral service will be on November 19th, at 4:00 pm, at United Methodist Church, 107 S. West street, Leander TX 78641. The family will welcome any of her friends and family to attend.
