July 14, 1941 – May 15, 2025
Hal N. Jungman, age 83, went to his eternal rest on Thursday, May 15, 2025, in Leander, Texas. He was born on July 14, 1941, to parents Herman and Myrtle Jungman in Castroville, Texas.
Raised in La Coste, Texas, a small town in the Medina River Valley, Hal was known for his dedication to every endeavor he pursued. After losing his father at a young age, he, his mother, and sister worked hard to support the family. That early responsibility instilled in him a strong work ethic that he carried throughout his life.
Hal excelled academically and graduated as valedictorian of his high school class. He was a standout athlete in both baseball and football, even playing at the collegiate level. He was active in FFA, raising pigs and chickens, and one of the proudest achievements of his youth was winning champion pig at the Livestock Show. The prize money from that accomplishment helped pay for his college education. He went on to attend The University of Texas at Austin, where he proudly earned his Bachelor of Business Administration.
After college, Hal began a successful career with Luby’s Cafeterias, serving as a lead manager in several locations. He eventually established a new location in Longview, Texas, where he and his family settled. Upon retiring from Luby’s, Hal continued his service to the community as the Food Service Director for Longview ISD, where he enjoyed a meaningful and productive career.
Hal was outgoing and sociable, and together he and his wife Martha made many lifelong friends. An avid golfer, he played several times a week in retirement and frequently participated in tournaments. He also loved to cook, and his dishes were always the most anticipated at the “Back Forty” social gatherings.
He was deeply devoted to his family and dearly loved his wife. Hal and Martha were forever sweethearts, their love for one another always evident. They met in McAllen, Texas, where Hal received his first assignment with Luby’s. Their children, Mark and Holly, were his pride, and his grandchildren, Samantha and Ryan, brought him great joy. Just last year, he was blessed with a great-grandson, Theodore. You never doubted his love for his family.
Hal leaves behind a legacy of loyalty and humor. He will be remembered fondly for his kindness, his quiet strength, and his unwavering devotion to those he loved. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Martha Jungman; his son, Mark Jungman, and wife Debbie; his granddaughter, Samantha Jungman; his grandson, Ryan Jungman, and wife Shannon, along with their son Theodore; and his sister, Karen Geiger.
He is preceded in death by his parents and his daughter, Holly Woolsey.
