

Phillip Blaine Nicholes of Round Rock, Texas, passed away peacefully on Thursday, August 27, 2020 at the age of 85. Phil was born March 5, 1935 in Salt Lake City, Utah, to Blaine Phillip Nicholes and Lorna White Nicholes. He married his high school sweetheart, JaNae Cheney, on February 23, 1957, and they were blessed with four daughters.
Phil proudly served his country in the United States Air Force in Okinawa and the U.S. He attended the University of Utah Institute of Technology. Phil began his career with the Salt Lake City Traffic Engineering Division. For over 40 years he worked in the traffic industry, eventually becoming President and CEO of four divisions of a Fortune 500 company. He later retired as President of Siemens Traffic Division. Phil was an active member of the National Electrical Manufacturers Association (NEMA) where he was instrumental in developing many industry standards that are still in use today. He was well respected in his field.
Phil loved fishing on the Provo River and in Alaska, hunting, and the outdoors. He loved sports and played basketball and football in his high school years, and in the Air Force. Phil spent his life providing and caring for his family, and found joy in spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He enjoyed playing games, especially Liar's Dice, traveling, and spending time with friends and family.
Phil is preceded in death by his daughter, Penny. He is survived by his wife, JaNae, his children: Cindy (Bob), Shari (Doug), Christi (Adam), granddaughter Amy (Jonah) whom he raised, his loving sister, Lorna Jean, many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Due to COVID health concerns the family will hold a celebration of life at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Missionary Fund, Austin Smiles, or another charity of your choice. The family would like to extend our sincere gratitude to San Gabriel Care Center in Round Rock, Texas for the exceptional care, kindness, and friendship shown to our father during his stay.
