Robert Zapata was a devoted husband, father and grandfather…but most of all Robert was a man dedicated to God and His work. He left our earthly world suddenly, Monday morning on November 9th, 2020 at the age of 81.
He was born to Frank & Christina Zapata on March 4th, 1939 and was a brother to Rudy, Mary and Emma. After graduating high school in (1959), Robert joined the United States Air Force where he had the honor to serve this great country, he was so proud of.
Robert was married to his lovely wife, Kathy Zapata for 36 glorious years and was the proud father of four sons & a daughter: Bobby, Ryan, Kelly, Crystal & Nehemiah. He was a man who believed in hard work, accountability & respect…and he lived every moment of his life ensuring that he led his family on a moral path of ethics, manners and Faith. His roots will continue to blossom through his 9 grandchildren: Seth, Alison, River, Sean, Ainsley, Isaiah, Courtney, Caleb & Kylie.
He doesn’t only leave behind a family who shares his name. Robert also leaves behind a family that goes by the name of “Banister”. As long as his kids can remember, he was a Machinist for the great company Banister Tool Inc. It was there that Robert spent over 30 years not just for a job, but as a member of a family. It was there he would build more relationships than any other place. He was so proud of what they did…of what he did, and he would come home every day telling us about the great work he was a part of. Robert leaves behind the members of his Banister Tool family: Roger, Brandon, Rosa, John, Casey…and so many more.
Robert loved to go out to eat, a regular at Jardine’s. They will surely miss him. He loved to drive to the hill country & pick up tamales from the Tamale King…they will surely miss him. He would leave the house for a Short Stop burger, and immediately eat the burger in a parking lot because “that’s when it’s the best”…they will surely miss him. He would randomly go to a hospital, a nursing home & places where people felt so alone…just to talk to them about God & comfort them when they had nobody else. They don’t know it, but they too…will miss him.
Robert was a lot of things. He was a Son, a Brother, a Husband, a Father, a Grandfather…but there is one thing that he was, he is, and he always will be…a man of God.
Please know the Zapata family has setup a GoFundMe page to help the household with the arrangements & services. Contributions are optional, please don’t feel obligated, but they are greatly appreciated.
