It is with great sadness that the family of Colin Ashley Cunningham announces his passing on Tuesday, October 22, 2019 at the age of 73. Colin is lovingly remembered by his children Don (Kim), Pat (Brenda) and Carol, grandchildren Spenser, Quinn, Alaynna, Amy, and Erin, great-grandaughter Nevaeh, sister-in-law Doreen Austgarden (Gerry) and niece Zoe-Ann. Colin was predeceased by his wife, Marlene and son-in-law Shane Underwood.
Born in Belfast, Ireland to Colin Sr. and Elizabeth Cunningham, Colin immigrated to Canada as a baby. He struck out on his own as a young man at 17, eventually finding himself in the airline industry. He retired after a 35-year long career and enjoyed many lasting friendships made in Fort Nelson, Whitehorse, Fort St. John and Leduc.
While raising their family, Colin and Marlene were kept busy with their children, whether on trips to Hawaii and Disneyland or trips to the rinks, camp sites and Brownies.
A great role model to his children, Colin instilled a strong sense of responsibility, hard work and duty to family. The family has many fond memories of dice, Yahtzee and card games around the dining room table and Colin always keeping the gumball machine (and penny supply) full for the grandchildren. Colin was very athletic. He enjoyed humour of all sorts, playing the guitar, reading (and consequently filling in a crossword in record time), travelling with Marlene and having the company of family and friends.
The family would like to thank the staff at Discovery Place and at the Long-Term Care Facility at the Devon General Hospital for their care, attention and valued support.
Colin will be remembered in a private memorial service.
Donations in memory of Colin may be made to the Devon General Hospital Foundation at www.devonhospitalfoundation.org.
