OBITUARY

David Miles

6 December, 1937 – 24 August, 2026
IN THE CARE OF

Hainstock & Son Funeral Chapel

Edward David Miles was born December 6, 1937 and was 88 years old when he passed away peacefully on August 24, 2026.

At the time of his passing Dave was living in Leduc, Alberta.

Dave was born in Glace Bay, NS to Jesse and Lena Miles. Dave married Eileen and they moved to Toronto to begin their life together. Dave was working for Square D. They had four children, Debbie, Brian, Rick and Michael.

Dave & Eileen bought a small acreage just outside of Bolton, Ontario. The first of the four houses Dave built for himself was on this property on Duffy’s Lane beside the Humber River. During his time here Dave had a backhoe which he used in his excavating company.

In the spring of 1972 they made the long trek to Grande Cache, AB. Raising four children aged eight to thirteen at the time with all graduating from Grande Cache High School before moving on to make their way in the world and produce 10 grandchildren for Dave & Eileen. During the nine years in Grande Cache they had two businesses, Dave’s Pizza and Daleen Cleaning Services which Eileen ran while Dave worked at the mine.

In 1975 a small lot was purchased on Gabriola Island, BC. This was a vacation property until 1981 when Dave & Eileen moved there. They immediately built a small house on the property. They later purchased a 5 acre lot and Dave built his second house on Gabriola. This was a larger house with an outdoor pool and room for the gardens that Eileen loved. Both Dave and Eileen were very involved in the Gabriola Fellowship Church. Dave had a few jobs while living on Gabriola. He was a greenskeeper at the local golf course, maintenance man and groundskeeper and finally a school bus driver with the Nanaimo School division. But the job that really seemed to give him a greatest satisfaction was school bus driving. He drove for many years and took those children to school and so many other extracurricular activities including ski trips and band outings.

In the early 2000’s Dave and Eileen moved back to Nova Scotia (Cape Breton) and built a house on the Mira River. Again they were very involved in their church in Sydney. During their time there they opened a gift shop at Marion bridge and later moved it to Baddeck.

They came back west in 2010 to live as nomads in their motorhome and would spend their summers visiting their sons in Alberta and winter on Vancouver Island with their daughter. His last six years were spent in senior’s homes in Leduc.

Dave is survived by his brother Raymond; his children: Debbie, Brian, and Michael; grandchildren: Colin, Reece, Torrence, Jason, Jeff, Michele, David, Michael, Darren, and Ashley; and 13 great grandchildren.

Eleven months ago Dave’s wife Eileen passed away and now they are together again.

Thinking of them Always!
