At the time of her passing Eileen was living in Leduc, Alberta.
Eileen was born in Glace Bay, NS to Sadie and Raymond Bond. After finishing high school she married David Miles and they moved to Toronto to begin their life together. They had four children, Debbie, Brian, Rick and Michael.
Their next move was to Bolton, Ontario. In 1972 they made the long trek to Grande Cache, AB. During the nine years in Grande Cache they had two businesses, Dave’s Pizza and Daleen Cleaning Services which Eileen ran while David worked at the mine. Eileen spearheaded the initiative to paint the garbage can in Grande Cache to reflect the minors that worked at McIntyre coal Mines.
In 1981 they moved to Gabriola Island, BC. They built two houses on the island and were very involved in their church. In the late 1990’s they moved back to Nova Scotia and built another house. Eileen had a gift shop at Marion Bridge and then opened another one in Bedeck, NS.
They came back west in 2010 to live as nomads in their motorhome and would spend their summers visiting their sons in Alberta and winter on Vancouver Island with their daughter. Her last six years were spent in senior’s homes in Edmonton and Leduc.
Eileen was always active. She was either running a business or involved with her church, or just growing her gardens. Eileen had a remarkable gift for gardening. With her green thumb, she nurtured vibrant gardens that reflected her patience, dedication and the love she poured into every plant. The beautiful spaces she created will always be remembered by her family.
She loved to play games and was always very competitive no matter what the age of the opponent.
She loved food, especially the ones that weren’t good for her like cake! She loved watching horse racing and the excitement of cheering on the horse she had bet on.
She loved to sing and was never shy to sing along to the radio while driving or make her voice heard on every hymn in church. She devoted herself wholeheartedly to her church, taking great pride in helping those in need, and finding joy in serving others. Her support touched countless lives and she will be remembered for her generous spirit.
Eileen did have issues with her eyesight as she would tell you for many years, she was a blonde although there was no visible evidence (all grey).
Eileen is survived by her husband David; her children, Debbie, Brian, and Michael; grandchildren Colin, Reece, Torrence, Jason, Jeff, Michele, David, Michael, Darren, Ashley; 13 great grandchildren; her sister Katherine, and brother Raymond.
