Gerald John Szepesy, 72 years old, of Warburg, Alberta, passed away peacefully in the morning of September 2nd, 2025, in the Hospice wing of St. Joseph’s Auxiliary Hospital in Edmonton, Alberta. Born in Edmonton in 1953 to John and Elizabeth Szepesy, he grew up in the Warburg area.
Gerry married his best friend and love, Natalie, in 1983, and together, a few years later, they took over the farm from his father, “Rolling Hills Ranch,” just west of Warburg, farming cattle and grain for the proceeding years until retirement in 2016. While farming was a massive part of his life, his true passions lay with exploring the world with his wife and kids, golfing every chance he got, and spending his winters escaping the cold with his wife at their home in Arizona. In retirement, he even hosted an annual golf tournament for his golfing buddies called the “Cactus Masters,” that they all looked forward to every year. Gerry was always the life of the party, a magnetic personality that you just couldn’t help but joke with. An extremely kind and generous soul, to know him is to love him.
Gerry is survived by his wife, Natalie; daughter, Chelsey; sons: Brandon (Kristen) and Michael (Casey); and grandchildren: Taven, Isaac, and Oliver. Also left to cherish his memory are his mother, Elizabeth; sister, Linda; and brother, Ron (Joan). He was predeceased by his father, John. Gerry was a very engaged Dad and Grandpa, the ultimate “family man.”
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 4:00 PM, on Friday, September 12, 2025, in Warburg Community Hall in Warburg, Alberta. Viewing to take place the hour before the ceremony, and burial to follow at St. Charles Catholic Cemetery in Warburg.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Warburg Cultural Center and The Stollery Children’s Hospital in Gerry’s memory. The family extends a heartfelt thanks for all the support over the past tumultuous year. His family was by his side the entire time, especially his wife, Natalie. Grief is the price of a deep love.
