It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Greg Hartt on Tuesday, March 10, 2026, at the Cross Cancer Institute, with his family holding his hands after a courageous battle with Nocardia and Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia.
Born in Edmonton to Alice and Hubert Hartt, Greg was raised in the Killam, AB area. His first job was working for John Deere, where he developed an inclination toward mechanics. He later earned his Heavy Equipment Technician certificate from NAIT, which allowed him the freedom to explore the world, working as a mechanic on drilling rigs in Pakistan, Yemen, Sudan, Costa Rica, Algeria, Cuba, Venezuela, Spain, and many other places.
He met Ann Pederson, and they were married on March 9, 1976. Shortly after, they moved to Spain, then Venezuela, and eventually settled back in Canada in 1982, the year Trish was born. Greg was a terrific father who taught his daughter what it feels like to be loved unconditionally, and he remained a fierce protector until his last breath.
Ann, Greg, and Trish lived a life full of laughter and love, with their adventures taking them to Disneyland, Mexico, Las Vegas, and many campgrounds scattered across Alberta.
After Ann’s passing in 2011, Greg was lucky enough to find another traveling companion who could put up with his spirited political opinions. Tannis took Greg on many adventures across British Columbia and was there to support him during his final days. Greg’s final decade was filled with many laughs (and even more beers) with his son-in-law, Jayson Goguen, whom he treated as his own son. They could always be found attached at the hip, either at the campground or in the Kosmos lounge.
Special thanks to all of the nurses, as well as Nan Cox-Kennett and Dr. Candler at the CCI, who provided Greg with such loving care in his final days.
Greg was predeceased by his parents, Alice and Hubert; his brothers, Brian and Sandy; and his wife, Ann.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations in “Perley’s Grampa’s” name may be made to the Edmonton Cold Weather Animal Rescue Society.
