Our world is a little less sunny because Illona Baskier is no longer here to share it. Born Illona Frances McLean in Birtle, MB, our much-loved Mom and Grammie was raised on the family farm but was always up for adventures. Her first was leaving her loving family to attend Teacher’s College in Winnipeg, followed by a move to the west coast with her husband Don Baskier. RCMP postings led them across Canada’s north and west finally settling in Leduc with their four children; Lindsey, Leanne, Laurie, and Clayton. Mom ventured back to University to earn her B.Ed. in her forties and added four more beloved children in the form of in-laws; Harold, Stephen, Heath, and Becky. She was always delighted to travel, across the prairies or across the world, but her primary delight was her grandchildren; Quinn (Danielle), Daley, Tessa (Aaron), Drew, Zackary, McLean, Renna (Jack), Brooklyn, and Lynae. Illona was predeceased by her husband Don, daughter Leanne, and granddaughter Daley. She will always be remembered with love and laughter by her siblings Judy and Hugh as well as her kids and grandkids. Details of the Memorial Service will be shared privately with close family and friends.
