We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of John Fritz in Leduc, Alberta on Saturday, October 25th. John was born in Paks, Hungary on December 6, 1928 and travelled to Canada with his mother, Magdalena, the following year. His father, John, was already living in the Genesee area. John was the oldest of five brothers. The family farmed, had a trucking business, and owned a general store in Genesee. In 1953, John married Teresa Merkl from Taber, Alberta. They had four children. John farmed in Genesee and worked on the oil rigs. In 1970, the family moved 10 miles south to the Village of Warburg. John worked with his brother, Joe, operating back hoes. Later, John did maintenance for the Village of Warburg until his retirement. John enjoyed tinkering in his garage and restored an old Model T and a Nash. He could whip up a bird house if any children or grandchildren requested one, fix a flat bike tire, and make a whistle from a piece of a tree branch. He was a builder, a carpenter, a painter, a mechanic and general fixer of all things. We won’t forget his kind and gentle nature and that witty sense of humour.
John leaves to mourn his wife, Teresa, his son, Roger and wife Vicki and his daughter, Valerie, 10 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren, his brother, George, and sister-in-law, Erna, his sister-in-law, Thelma, his brother, Randy and many nieces, nephews and good friends.
John is predeceased by his son, Rod, and his daughter, Cathy, his parents John and Magdalena Fritz, and brothers, Joe and Alex.
He will be deeply missed.
Thank you to the staff of Salem Manor in Leduc.
