Ken was born in Castor, Alberta, the fifth of 8 children to Frank and Elizabeth Hepp. He spent his childhood on the family farm and always said his fondest memory was playing ball on the fields of the homestead.
Ken left the farm to join the Royal Canadian Air Force in 1954 and returned to Castor in 1956 to marry his childhood sweetheart, Mary Ellen Provost. From there, the couple moved to Portage La Prairie where they had their first daughter, Tracy Ann. They were then stationed overseas, first to 2 Fighter Wing in Moselle, France where they had their 2nd daughter, Michelle Marie. Following the post in France, they moved to Zweibrucken, Germany for 2 years then settled at CFB Cold Lake, Alberta for the remainder of his years of service.
Ken and Mary Ellen moved to Leduc in 1979 and enjoyed watching their family grow as the girls both married and each had three children. It was a difficult time in Ken’s life when Mary Ellen was diagnosed with cancer and succumbed to her illness in 1996.
Ken was lucky enough to have a second chance at happiness when he met and married Gail Marks-Hepp, and each of their families were delighted to welcome the other into their lives. Ken and Gail enjoyed many wonderful years together, having family gatherings and welcoming 2 more grandchildren and great grandchildren to the family. They enjoyed travelling across Canada, parts of Europe and several wonderful trips to Mexico. Everyone always said they were an adorable couple – and they were, right to the end.
Ken was a devout parishioner of St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Leduc where he served as Finance Chair on St Michael’s Parish Council for 6 years and 17 years as Financial Treasurer of Leduc Knights of Columbus Annual Hockey Camp. He also volunteered with Leduc Community Patrol, and spent 15 years (together with Gail) as Volunteer Ambassadors at the Edmonton International Airport.
Ken leaves to mourn his wife, Gail; daughters: Tracy, and Michelle (Rob); stepchildren: Doug (Michael), Leanne (Brian) and Kent, grandchildren: Kayla (Ross), Mark (Linnea), Kyle (Meghan), Craig (Jennine), Bradley (Emily), Kourtney (Carter), Jenna, Carter and Kelly (Jason). He was adored by his great-grandchildren: Ben, Ivy, Brooks, Ella, Dominic, Hailey and Grayson; as well as several nieces and nephews.
He also leaves siblings: Marie, Ethel, (Lawrence) and Clarence to cherish his memory.
Ken was predeceased by his first wife Mary Ellen; great-granddaughter Madelyn Joy Charest; sisters Barbara Ann Bouma and Doris Reid; and his brothers Marvin and Melvin Hepp.
