It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Lola Marie McGrath on February 23, 2025, at The Royal Alexandra Hospital in Edmonton, Alberta. She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend.
Born in Lac La Biche, Alberta, on December 20, 1954, to parents Richard and Nancy Couture, Lola was raised for most of her life by her uncle and aunt, Carl and Yvonne Schmidt, alongside her cousin Carol (John). She lived a life full of love, kindness, and compassion and was known for her giving heart and unconditional love.
Lola dedicated her life to raising children and caring for anyone who came to her door. She was always willing to feed and house anyone in need. For a time, she worked as a nurse’s aide at Extendicare in Leduc, but her true passion was caring for her children and grandchildren at home. She spent countless hours at hockey rinks and school celebrations, cheering on her grandchildren and celebrating their accomplishments. She loved her trips to the mountains with Sylvain and her campfires at Jerrod’s.
Lola cherished spending time with family and friends, sharing meals and great conversations. She would never let anyone leave without a “care package” of some sort. She took great pride in her giving nature and selfless heart.
Lola is survived by her husband, Sylvain, and his sons: Alexandre and Maxime; her sons, Jerrod and Luke; her daughter, Tracy; daughters-in-law, Cindy and Candice (Chris); her brothers: Larry (Cheryl), Robert (Debbie), and Ron (Julie); as well as her sister, Leona (Archie). Her pride and joy were her grandchildren: Erin (Mathew), Megan (Tyler), Rayanne, Amber, Dayton, Linken, and Trinity; and her great-grandchildren: Landon, Ezra, and Jacob.
Lola was predeceased by her first husband, Ron McGrath; her parents, Richard and Nancy Couture; and her aunt and uncle, Yvonne and Carl Schmidt.
A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 PM, on March 15, 2025, in Peace Lutheran Church, 4606 48 St, Leduc, where family and friends will gather to celebrate her remarkable life.
Flowers can be sent to Hainstock & Son Funeral Chapel (Leduc), and expressions of sympathy in Lola’s name can be made to the STARS Air Ambulance Foundation.
