Predeceased by her parents John (JI) and Gwen Westman, and her youngest son Jonathan, Lynnie is survived by her loving husband Nels, son Jeffrey (Justin), sister Jane, brother David (Angie), and countless friends and family.
Lynnie was born and grew up in Jasper where she loved dancing, skiing, hiking, curling, skating, playing piano, and helping her father in his garden. Some of Lynnie’s fondest memories were when her older sister Jane would bring friends from University back to Jasper for visits. The Anglican Parish of St. Mary & St. George was a central part of her childhood and upbringing, and was where she and Nels were married in 1984.
Lynnie and Nels had two boys, Jeffrey and Jonathan, whom they raised between Jasper, Hinton, and Edmonton. Lynnie was a devoted champion for her boys as they adventured through band, army cadets, sports, and other hobbies.
Lynnie began her working days in the CN Yard office in Jasper and Edmonton. Eventually, Human Resources Studies at MacEwan opened doors to a career in the civil service with the Government of Alberta. She was passionate about providing government supports for the most vulnerable Albertans, and was known by colleagues for her gentle nature, strong work ethic and attention to detail.
Recently retired, Lynnie remembered fondly Jasper High School Reunions. She was disappointed when the most recent one was cancelled due to the wildfires. Her kind and generous yet reserved personality made countless friends for life, and she cherished every opportunity to see and visit them - even if just by phone or through Facebook.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 1:00 PM, on May 2, 2025 in St. George’s Anglican Church located at 11733 87 Avenue NW in Edmonton.
Lynnie enjoyed volunteer fundraising for the Alberta Lung Association in the 90’s despite being a shift worker raising two young boys. With this in mind, Lynnie’s family would appreciate memorial donations to the Alberta Lung Association to help build “Breathing Space” - a new temporary accommodation for lung transplant recipients from across western and northern Canada. Donations are tax deductible and can be made at https://ablung.ca/give-back/donate/.
