Ruby was born on October 30, 1930, in the small mining town of Cardiff, AB, just north of Edmonton, where she lived on a farm with her parents, 3 brothers and 1 sister.
Ruby went to Cardiff school -which only taught to grade nine- after which she stayed home helping with chores. (She always said she could milk cows with the best, and loved to be outside)
In 1954, Ruby married John Demuynck, and they settled on a farm in the Calmar-Thorsby area. There they raised three children: Carol, who became a nurse, married, and had 1 child; Patricia, who also became a nurse, married, and had 2 children; and Randolph, who was born in 1963, and who died in an automobile accident in 1981.
She enjoyed her garden- especially growing flowers. She was very proud of her yard, and along with helping in the fields- there was always something to do.
Ruby also enjoyed her neighbours, especially her lifelong friend Doris! Just having them stop by for a relaxing cup of coffee, and some fresh baked cookies or buns was nice! There was always a friend when you needed them. Ruby was also fond of the memories of wiener roasts in the creek, when all her kids were little. As she and John watched them grow, go to school and get married, they felt “They did something right”.
In 1987, Ruby and John retired from the farm. They moved into Leduc, built a new home, and once again Ruby was busy – always having the nicest flowers on the block.
Ruby liked to travel – and travelled a lot! She said, “Theres a whole world out there to see and just not enough time”. (also, a famous last saying)
Ruby will be lovingly remembered by her daughters: Carol (Don), and Patricia (Dave); grandsons: Chad and Nathan; and sister, Laura (Bill).
She was predeceased by her loving husband, John Demuynck; son, Randolph Demuynck; grandson, Scott Edwards; brothers: Rudolph, Eddie, and August Vion; and her parents, Nera and Cyril Vion.
In keeping with Ruby's wishes, cremation will take place, and no service will be held. A private family interment will take place in the spring.
In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy in Ruby’s name to the St. Margaret Mary Cemetery Fund, 5120 50th Avenue, Calmar are greatly appreciated.
