Born in Carrot River, Saskatchewan on May 12, 1945, Sandra was the eldest daughter, and one of ten siblings, to John and Ann Rutherford. Sandra passed away at 80 years of age on March 24th, 2026, in Palliative Care at the U of A hospital. Left to cherish her memory are daughters: Angela, Deborah and Jasmine; grandchildren: Kaitlyn, James and Devin, as well as many siblings, nieces, nephews, cousins , and friends.
Sandra left Carrot River for the employment opportunities of Hinton, Alberta at the tender age of 17. It was there that she met her husband, Wes. They began their family shortly thereafter. That didn’t stop Sandra’s career aspirations: she worked as the only paid employee as a part-time lifeguard and instructor at the Hinton outdoor pool. She also worked full-time as a dental assistant for Dr. Tak Hayashi. Add that to motherhood for three girls… she was a busy lady full of “larger than life” ambitions.
By the time the 70’s rolled around the Wittow’s moved to Kittimat, B.C. There she worked full-time at the Sam Lindsay Aquatic Centre. She signed the girls up for “everything”: swimming lessons, piano lessons, bowling and a myriad of other activities. She filled their busy lives; she kept her girls on the go.
The late ‘70’s took the family back to Saskatoon where Sandra and Wes remained for more than three decades. In all that time she never took a break from being busy. Not only did she work full time - sometimes working three jobs at a time. Sandra was always “on the go”, any idle time was spent digging in the dirt, planting, growing, cultivating flowers, trees. and shrubs. In 2011 the couple moved to Rollyview, Alberta to be closer to her girls and her grandchildren.
Kindness was her purpose in life. She was a giver. From taking care of strays to supporting people in need, she always made time and space to help out. She was “present” when anyone needed her. She leaves behind her a true “legacy of love”. Predeceased by her husband Wes Wittow; brother Dwight Rutherford; sister Brenda Krawczyk; and brother-in-law Steve Voth
We will celebrate her life on May 30th, 2026, at 2:00 pm at Royal Hotel, Edmonton Airport.
