Verna Pongar

It is with great sadness that the family of Verna Pongar announce her sudden passing on September 13, 2025, at the age of 80. Verna was a long-time resident of Leduc, AB, and most recently resided at the Gene Zwozdesky Centre at Norwood in Edmonton, AB, where she passed away.

Verna leaves behind, and will lovingly be remembered by her children, Leona (Chris) Andres, and Lorne (Valerie) Pongar, grandchildren Quentin, Nathan (Seleena), Sheldon (Brynne), Mackenzie, Brooke, and Hayley, as well her brother Alvin (Gladys) Burdeyney. Verna was predeceased by her husband Stanley, as well as her father and mother, John and Annie Burdeyney.

A Funeral Service will be held at 1:00 p.m., on Thursday, September 25, 2025, in St. David’s United Church, 4614 – 48 Street, Leduc, AB with Reverend Leigh Sinclair officiating. Those wishing to pay their final respects may do so between 12:00 p.m. and 1:00 p.m.

The family wishes to send a special thank you to the staff on the 4th Floor of the Gene Zwozdesky Centre at Norwood for their care and compassion of Verna, as well as family and friends who took the time to visit with her.

Those special memories of you

will always bring a smile,

if only I could have you back

just for a while.

Then we could sit and talk again,

just like we used to do.

You always meant so very much,

and always will do too.

The fact that you're no longer here,

will always cause me pain,

but you're forever in my heart

until we meet again.
