Freida Batcheler

Freida was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother (Febee), daughter, sister, and friend. Her warmth, kindness, and steady presence touched the lives of all who knew her. She was the heart of her family — the quiet strength behind every celebration, every challenge, and every moment of love shared.

She is survived by her beloved husband of 41 years, Chet Batcheler; her cherished children, daughter Michelle Varnell (Daniel) and son Christopher Batcheler; and her treasured grandchildren, Peyton, Finnegan, and Vivienne Varnell, who brought her immeasurable joy and pride. Freida also leaves behind her loving mother, Mary Gilham; her sister, Gina Wheatley (Michael); and her brothers, Kenneth Gilham (Kathy), Vince Gilham (Pam), and Brian Gilham (Kellie).

Freida’s love for her family was boundless, and her legacy lives on in the lives she helped shape. Whether through a gentle word, a home-cooked meal, or a quiet act of service, she shared her heart in everything she did. She found peace and joy in the simple things — soaking up the sun, relaxing by her pool, and spending time with her loved ones out on the lake. She was happiest with the sun on her face and her family nearby, laughing, sharing stories, and making memories. Whether she was “playing in the dirt” in the yard or floating peacefully in the water, she cherished the moments that brought her closer to nature and the people she loved most.

A visitation will be held on Monday, April 21, 2025, from 10:00–11:00 AM at the Chapel of Kilgroe Funeral Home in Leeds, Alabama, followed by a Funeral Service at 11:00 AM. Freida will be laid to rest at Forest Crest Cemetery.

The space she leaves behind is impossible to fill, but her love and spirit will forever be part of us.
