He was born in Macon, GA to John L Smith, Sr and Jessie Herrington Smith. He was a graduate of Leeds High School, class of 1968 and served honorably in the United States Navy.
John was a member of GWRRA, Chapter N and Slasham Valley Irregulars RC Club. He enjoyed traveling on his trike, building and flying RC airplanes, line dancing, riding horses and serving at his church, ONEeighty.
John was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Larry Smith. He leaves behind five children - Rebecca (Billy) Barron, Emily (Josh) Files, Jason (Kim) Smith, David (Tanna) Smith, Steven (Jessica) Smith, 9 grandchildren, 1 great grandson, fiancé Denise Russell, siblings Janet (Bill) Mann, Lynn (Robin) Smith and aunt Viree (Frank) Sweatt.
Services will be on Sunday, October 17, 2021at ONEeighty Church 5570 US Hwy 11 Springville, Alabama, with the visitation from 1:00 PM until 2:00 PM with the memorial service beginning at 2:00 PM.
