On February 1, 2019 Pastor John Terry Stewart arrived at his final destination with his heavenly father. He was preceded in death by his parents, Clyde and Velma Stewart; sisters, Jean Howard, Dorothy Vandiver and Jacquelyn Brasher; and niece, Elaine Fowler. His legacy lives on through his loving wife, Wanda Cale Stewart, daughters, Tina Stewart (Russ), Tammy Lawrence (Tommy), and Tonya Stewart Graham; grandsons, Brett, Jarrett, Jeremy, Alec and Karrson; brother in law, Billy D. Brasher and loved by numerous nieces and nephews. John Stewart came into this world fighting for his life and was not a person to give up easily until it came to giving in and up to our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. He wasn’t only a preacher, which was his life, he also worked in the construction field beginning at age 16. He worked with and earned his apprenticeship through his father and his father’s construction company. Ministering was his calling and his life but construction was what he did to provide for his family. For over 40 years he worked at his trade and ministered at the same time. He was called into the ministry in 1971 where he pastored a church and was then called to a mission outreach in Birmingham, AL. He served at the Christian Service Mission where they established the Bethany and Hannah home for abused women and children. During this time he evangelized in over 300 churches and 10 different denominations. He received his ministry studies from Emory University. After serving with the mission, God called him into full time Pastoral Ministry. He served many churches in Alabama. In June 1993, he, along with his family, founded and established a community church in Branchville, Family Christian Fellowship. During this time of ministry he was given the privilege to travel to the Bahama’s, Trinidad and Kampala, Uganda. There he preached crusades and helped establish four Churches, winning many souls for the Kingdom. His life was all about his family and building the Kingdom. We can truly say “This man lived and practiced what he preached”. Although he will be truly missed and our lives will never be the same without him, we say “Rest in Peace and enjoy what the Father has in store”. We love you so much and the legacy goes on. As he always said “One day you’ll hear John Stewart is dead, but don’t believe it. I will have only just begun to live”. Our family wishes to thank all our friends and family for their loving support and outpouring of love during this heartbreaking time. A special thanks to Dr. Benjamin Jones and Alabama Oncology for the wonderful care and extended support for our husband, daddy and grandfather.
