Thomas “Tommy” Wilson Cater, age 74 of Ashville, Alabama, passed away on Sunday, September 12, 2021. Tommy lived a life dedicated to civil service. He served in law enforcement for 33 years. In addition to serving in law enforcement, Tommy was instrumental in starting the Cool Springs Fire Department, where he served as the fire chief for many years. Tommy is preceded in death by his mother, Edith Maude Goodwin, his sister, Cathy Tyler, and his first wife, Sandy Cater. He is survived by his wife, Alice Murphree Cater; sons, Bo Cater (Miranda), Tim Cater (Trisha), Matt Payne (Megan), and Tim Payne; daughters, Alisin Payne and Alaina Storey (Jason); sisters, Karen Carlee, Terry Ruck (Tim), Rhonda Grounds, and Raye Bagwell (Danny); brothers, Neal Cater, Clayton Cater (Vicki), Jeff Tyler (Betty Jean), and Phillip Estes; grandchildren, Immori Dixon (Clark), Marrin Cater, Noah Cater, A. J. Cater, Alicia Farmer (William), Emma Higginbotham, Ian Higginbotham, and Logan Wilson; great grandchildren, Case Burton, Triller Cater, Zeke Cater, Caleb Dixon, and Connor Dixon. Services for Tommy will be on Wednesday, September 15, 2021 at Cool Springs Baptist Church with the visitation from 12:00 PM until 2:00. The funeral service will begin at 2:00 PM with burial in the adjoining cemetery.
