Our loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother was taken to our heavenly Father on July 15th, 2014 at the age of 92.
Ann Marie Paulson was born on November 7, 1921 in Kirkland, IL. She was the oldest daughter of Amandus and Ida Carlson. Ann attended a one room country schoolhouse. Nicknamed "Swede," she hoped to marry a certain young man attending the University of Illinois after graduating from Kirkland High School. She did, marrying Homer Paulson in Nashville, TN on August 23, 1942 while he was serving in the U.S. Army Air Corps. They had attended the same high school, were confirmed at Kirkland's First Lutheran Church, and went on to celebrate 69 years of happy marriage.
Over the years, as Homer followed his career from Des Plaines, to Atlanta, through Los Altos to Arcadia, CA, Ann used her home making and parenting skills to secure a warm home and nurture three appreciative children into responsible, successful, and God-fearing adults. The love Homer and Ann shared brought warmth, joy and laughter to all who shared their journey. They loved family gatherings for any excuse they could find. They loved to travel and to play their many card games along the way. In addition to her love of family, her deep faith was evidenced by her active involvement in every faith community they joined. From serving to singing in the choir, she evidenced a heart of service.
In their retirement years, they took up residence in Del Webb's Sun City in Palm Desert, CA in 1993. They moved to La Vida Real in El Cajon, CA in July of 2003 to be closer to family and friends. They were two of La Vida Real's first residents and established many treasured relationships in their final years. Since Homer died in 2011, she has longed to go to him. She now has her wish.
She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law Terry and Lorie Paulson, Son and daughter-in-law Doug and Judy Paulson, daughter and son-in-law Patty and Hernan Padilla, grandchildren Sean Paulson (Nicole), Wendy (Mike) Greene, David Paulson (Joe), Ryan, Erik, and Karli Padilla, and great grandchildren Micah, Jeremiah, Naomi, and Chloe Paulson, and Ava and Jackson Greene.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial donation in Ann's honor may be made to the Copper Canyon Baptist Church (www.coppercanyonchurch.org), the Pacific Beach United Methodist Church (www.pbumc.org), or the Sharp Hopice (www.sharp.com/hospice).
