

Mr. Smith was born in Caldwell County to the late Boston C. Smith and Magnolia Bollinger Smith. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a grandson, Samuel Smith; sisters, Jerelene Pierce and Nathalee Haas and a brother, Larry “Buck” Smith. He was a proud veteran of the U. S. Navy, retired from MDI and a member of Dudley Shoals Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Sally Starnes Smith of the home; his daughters, Antonia Michelle Joyner and husband Alvin of Charlotte and Stormi Bova of Raleigh; a step-daughter, Judy Dishman of Lenoir; a step-son, Jerry “Josh” Teague and wife Eva of Granite Falls; a granddaughter, Felicia Watson and husband Andy of Granite Falls and great granddaughter, Ella Grace Watson, five grandchildren, five great grandchildren and a niece, Janet Webb.
A funeral service will be held Thursday, February 6, 2014 at 3:00 p.m. at Dudley Shoals Baptist Church with Reverend Ron Winkler, Reverend Don Ingle and Reverend Gordon West officiating. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends Wednesday, February 5, 2014 from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Dudley Shoals Baptist Church.
Serving as pallbearers will be Delano Young, Denny Hall, Roger Shull, Andy Watson, Butch Smith and Buddy Shull.
