Clyde was born October 7, 1927 in Wilkes County, he was the son of the late Rev. Gordon and Nora Williams Ferguson.
He was preceded in death by his wife Gloria Ewing Ferguson; sisters Louise Ferguson, Mary Banner and Ruth Ferguson; brothers Sam Ferguson and Enoch Ferguson and son-in-law Tuyerl Maxwell.
Pop Ferguson attended Unity of Faith Church of Lenoir and Peoples Tabernacle Of God, he was an Army veteran of WWII. He was well known for being a talented guitarist and vocalist for Pop Ferguson Blues. His greatest achievement was in 2008, when he was inducted into the Smithsonian Institute Library of Congress for Blues and Gospel Music.
Those left to cherish his memory include his daughter Elaine Setzer-Maxwell of Lenoir; a son Clyde R. Ferguson Jr. and wife Karen of Mt. Holly; sister Willie Mae Featherstone of Lenoir; grandchildren Ava Setzer, Michael Setzer (Erica), Kimberly Johnson, Kailey Hill (Cain), and Kristen Tolman (Kurt); 16 great grandchildren, special niece Linda Lockhart, and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives.
A Celebration of Life Service to honor Mr. Ferguson will be held, Saturday, May 5, 2018 at 3:00 pm at Pendry Funeral Home Chapel with Bishop Michael Sloan officiating.
The family will receive friends prior to the service, Saturday, May 5, 2018 from 1:00 pm until 2:45 pm at Pendry’s Lenoir Funeral Home and other times at the home of his daughter Elaine Setzer-Maxwell.
Burial will be at Mountain Home National Cemetery, Mountain Home, TN.
