Doris Pope

Mrs. Pope was born in Caldwell County to the late Granville Walter “Walt” Woods and Otie Mae Setzer Woods. She was an avid bowler, gardener, and she loved to fish and read her Bible. She was a member of Whitnel First Baptist Church. She also worked at Citizens Savings and Loan, which is now Suntrust, for 33 years as the bookkeeper and Assistant Vice President. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her sister, Willa Dean Woods Johnson, and her brother, Clarence Douglas “Doug” Woods.

Those left to cherish her memory are her husband of 62 years, Hal David Pope of the home; son, Walter “Hal” Pope and wife Caroline Beck Pope of Hudson; brothers, Walter Max Woods of Lenoir, and Cecil “Travis” Woods of Lenoir; and sisters, Betty Woods Witherspoon of Granite Falls, Barbara Woods Secreast of Lenoir, and Marilyn Woods Smith of Lenoir.

A funeral service will be held Wednesday, January 14, 2015 at Whitnel First Baptist Church at 3:00 p.m. with Reverend Stuart White and Reverend Steve Hedgecock officiating. Burial will follow at the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m.

Serving as pallbearers will be Billy Barlow, Preston Woods, Gary Johnson, Ronnie Secreast, Hoss Prestwood, and Tim Alley.

In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests that memorials be made to Whitnel First Baptist Church, 1201 Connelly Springs Road, Lenoir, North Carolina, 28645.
