Mr. Colbert was born in Caldwell County on September 9, 1945 to the late William Gus Colbert and Alberta Tilley Colbert.
Fred worked as a custodian and drove a school bus for Lower Creek Elementary School for 37 years. He was a loving and dedicated husband, father and grandfather and was a member of Living Hope Church in Lenoir for many years. He enjoyed working on cars, loved the outdoors and was a true people –person, never meeting a stranger.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers; Everette Tilley, Jerry Colbert, sisters; Josephine Harper and Mary Sloan.
Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Beatrice Patterson Colbert, of the home, son; Freddy William Colbert Jr. and wife Shawna of Fayetteville, GA, daughters; Angela Regina Colbert of Lenoir, Melinda Ann Colbert of Charlotte, sisters; Carolyn Ferguson of Lenoir, Kathleen Harper and husband Johnny of Morganton, a sister-in-law; Della Colbert of Lenoir and a friend-brother; David Michaux.
Also left to cherish his memory are three grandchildren, Ravin Carter, Bethany Colbert, Zoie Colbert and numerous nieces, nephews and extended family members.
A Private Funeral Service to honor Mr. Colbert will be held on Saturday, June 6, 2020 at 2:00 pm in the chapel of Pendry’s Lenoir Funeral Home with Rev. Keith Gilliam officiating. Burial will follow at Blue Ridge Memorial Park in Lenoir.
The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the service, from 1:00 pm until 2:00 pm at Pendry’s Lenoir Funeral Home.
