Born with a kind heart, steady hands, and an unwavering faith, Gary lived a life devoted to God, his family, his friends, and the simple joys that made every day meaningful. He believed in doing things the right way—with care, with love, and with purpose—and he left that mark on everything he touched.
Gary was a master of his craft, working for over 40 years in the furniture industry as one of the finest upholsterers around. He took great pride in his work and was known for his attention to detail, creativity, and craftsmanship. He loved to talk about the latest piece he’d worked on or a new design he’d helped bring to life. To Gary, it wasn’t just work—it was a chance to build something that lasted.
He loved being on the water in a boat, fishing rod in hand, surrounded by the calm and quiet he so enjoyed. Some of his favorite memories—and ours—came from time spent out on the lake, just fishing, laughing, and being together.
Gary is survived by his devoted wife of 48 years, Betty; his son, Jonathan; his daughter, Brandy and her husband, Seth. He was a proud grandfather to Mackenzie, Caleb, Emma, Zoe, and Timothy, who were his pride and joy. He is also survived by his brothers, Johnny Dunlap and Ronnie Dunlap, and a host of extended family and friends who will miss him deeply.
He was preceded in death by his father, John Henry Dunlap, and his mother, Ruby Clough Dunlap, both of whom helped shape the man of character he became.
Gary leaves behind a legacy of faith, hard work, and compassion. He believed in always doing your best and being there for others—whether it meant fixing something broken, building something new, or finding a creative way to solve a problem. He never hesitated to lend a hand, offer a kind word, or simply be there when someone needed him.
He will be remembered not only for the things he built with his hands but for the lives he shaped with his heart.
“Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me. In my Father's house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also.” John 14:1-3
