She was born on November 29, 1918 in Caldwell County to the late Sidney Anderson and Laura Herman Icard. Mrs. Hamlet was a member of Mountain Grove Baptist Church for numerous years and was an active member of the Baton community. She was a member of the Disabled American Veteran’s Women’s Auxiliary and the Ruritanettes. Mrs. Hamlet was an avid crafter, enjoyed playing cards, especially Bridge and Phase Ten, and loved to garden.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Willard Coleman Hamlet; daughter, Barbara Ann Chester; brothers, Calvin and Brantley Icard; sisters, Marie Sturgill, Mary White, Colene Hatley, and Juanita Goforth.
Mrs. Hamlet is survived by her daughter, Janice Hamlet Orick and husband Ed of Hildebran; sister, Winnie Chester of Pennsylvania; grandchildren, Keith Chester and wife Jan of Hudson, Wesley Chester of Drexel, Krystal Helton and husband Mike of Granite Falls, Amy Whisnant Gavaza and husband Brett of lake Wylie, SC, and Chad Hamlet Starnes of Hildebran; great-grandchildren, Doug Chester, Todd Chester, Joe Greene, Skylar Whisnant, Callie Greene, Bryson Whisnant, and Preslee Starnes; great-great-granchildren, Gwendolyn, Jocilyn, Shingo, and Michael Chester.
A funeral service honoring the life of Mrs. Hamlet will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, March 8, 2019 at Pendry’s Funeral Home Chapel, in Lenoir, with Mr. Toby Smith officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service, from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., at the funeral home. Entombment will be held at 2:00 p.m. at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens Chapel Mausoleum in Lenoir.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorials be made to the Mountain Grove Baptist Church Bus Fund, 2485 Connelly Springs Road, Granite Falls, NC 28630.
