

Irene Marie Barlow Cannon, 93, of Lenoir, passed away on January 9, 2017. She was born, November 1st, 1923 in Wilkes County to the late Charlie Edgar and Julia Belle Mash Barlow. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Earl Cannon; her brother Kenneth Barlow; and her two sisters Sarah B. Smith and Grace B. Land.
Irene worked at Bluebell Inc. and over the years, along with her husband, owned and operated several successful local businesses: A Biltmore Dairy franchise for approx. 10 years, Jeri’s Dairy Bar for 35 years, and Kentwood Market, which later became known as Cannon’s Four Lane Market for 22 years.
Irene was a member of College Avenue Baptist Church.
She leaves behind her daughter, Julia Cannon Clement; three grandchildren, Paula Clement Compton, Dale Clement, and Shane Clement and partner Greg Hand; four Great Grandchildren, Amber Clement Bryson and husband Josh, Jacob Clement, Dalton Clement and Abigail Compton; and one Great Great Grandchild, McKenzie Bryson.
Funeral Services will be held on Friday, January 13, 2017, 2:00 pm, at Pendry’s Funeral Home and will be conducted by the Rev. Chuck Brawley. The family will receive friends from 12:00-2:00 pm prior to the funeral service.
Interment will follow the service at Blue Ridge Memorial Park.
Serving as pallbearers will be: Dale Clement, Shane Clement, Greg Hand, Jacob Clement, Dalton Clement and Josh Bryson.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Hospice of Lenoir or College Avenue Baptist Church.
