Mr. Houck was born March 11, 1946 in Ashe County to the late Noble Stace and Nellie Wilcox Houck. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a step-father, Archie Houck, a sister, Wanda Blackwell and a brother, Tony D. Houck.
John was a member of Mtn. Grove Church and worked as a long distance truck driver for Broyhill Furniture for over 32 years. He was an ordained Deacon and a licensed Minister. During his many years driving across country, he often had the opportunity to share the Gospel with fellow drivers and folks he met while traveling. He took every opportunity he had to share the word of Jesus with others.
Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of 57 years, Sandra Lewis Houck of the home, a daughter, Kelly Houck Beach and husband Charles of Hickory, a son Jonathan Stacey Houck and wife Crystal of Lincolnton, brother, William Houck and wife Jean of Sawmills, sister, Mamie Huizenga of Ashe County, three grandchildren, Justin Beach and wife Kimberly, Jordan Beach Reese and husband Jordan, Chandler Houck and 1 great-grandchild, Leeona Catherine Beach.
A memorial service to honor Mr. Houck will be held on Saturday, January 9, 2021 at 2:00 pm with Rev. Jack Hodges officiating. The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the service, from 1:00 pm until 2:00 pm.
