

Joseph “Joe” Keith Hatfield, 71, of Lenoir, was called to his heavenly home on Saturday, May 2, 2026. Born on April 12, 1955, Joe was the son of the late John Joseph Hatfield and Beulah Mae McCoy Hatfield.
In addition to his parents, Joe was preceded in death by his brother, William Harvey Hatfield.
Joe leaves behind a loving family who will forever cherish his memory: his beloved wife, Danielle Nicole Hatfield; his daughter, Amy Addair Mitchell and husband Adam; his son, Joseph Kian Chase Hatfield and wife Sarah; his stepdaughter, Zoe Makenna Braswell; his treasured grandchildren, Paiten McKenzie Mitchell, Taylor Paige Pysell, and Joseph Cole Hatfield; his great-grandchild, Hudson Nash Mitchell; his sister, Elizabeth Ann Gresak and husband Martin; and his nephews, Kyle Martin Gresak, Colby Andrew Gresak, and Carson Bradley Gresak.
A proud graduate of Williamson High School, Joe continued his education at Pikeville College, West Virginia University, and Marshall University. He devoted 40 remarkable years to the field of education, where he served with passion and dedication as a bus driver, coach, teacher, assistant principal, and principal. Among his many accomplishments, Joe was especially proud of designing and creating Sandy River Middle School in Avondale, West Virginia, leaving a lasting impact on generations of students and educators.
Joe was a 32nd Degree Master Mason and a respected member of the Iaeger Masonic Lodge in West Virginia. He was also honored as a Kentucky Colonel. He was a member of Living Hope Church.
Beyond his professional achievements, Joe was known for his vibrant personality, love of storytelling, and deep appreciation for family traditions. He had a passion for cooking, often perfecting cherished family recipes as well as adventurous exotic dishes. His famous Hatfield and McCoy Rolls were a beloved favorite among family and friends. Joe also enjoyed golfing, writing, sharing stories, and gathering around the table with those he loved.
The family will receive friends from 2:00 PM until 3:30 PM on Saturday, May 9, 2026, at Living Hope Church, 1890 Connelly Springs Rd, Lenoir, NC 28645.
A funeral service to celebrate Joe’s life will follow at 3:30 PM at Living Hope Church, officiated by Pastor Gray Williams, Pastor Keith Gilliam, and Pastor Randall Dority.
Entombment will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens in Lenoir. Serving as pallbearers will be JR Sexton, Kyle Gresak, Adam Mitchell, Chase Hatfield, Jeff Church, and Jordan Boughman.
