

On Wednesday, August 22, 2012, Marie Hogan passed away after a lengthy illness. She was born on February 27, 1927. She was preceded in death by her father, Bernard Bach, and her mother, Dorothy Catherine Hannah Bach. Marie is survived by her husband of 53 years, Walter James Hogan; her younger brother, Russell Austinn Bach of Salem, Va.; two sons, James Bach Hogan and his wife, Janis Pigford Hogan, of Lenoir, N.C. and John Claywell Hogan and his wife, Margaret Parker Hogan, of Raleigh, N.C.; and four grandchildren, James Claywell Hogan, II, Parker Hannah Hogan, Paul William Hogan, and Cameron Lenoir Hogan. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Lenoir.
Marie grew up in Roanoke, Virginia, and was always fond of fine music. She was a 1948 graduate of Lees-McRae College and received a Distinguished Alumni Award from that institution. After graduation, Marie taught a medical records class at Lees-McRae. Prior to her marriage she was employed as a medical records librarian at Stanley County Hospital in Albemarle and at Grace Hospital in Morganton. After being married in 1959, she resided in Lenoir the rest of her life. Marie was a true southern lady and enjoyed taking care of her husband and sons. She was also very active in her church. She spent many years as a member of St. James Episcopal Church in Lenoir before transferring her membership back to the Presbyterian Church, the Church of her youth. She was quite active at the First Presbyterian Church in Lenoir while her health allowed. She loved her family, and enjoyed watching sporting events, especially those with her grandchildren participating. She enjoyed watching college basketball on television, and attended an occasional college football game.
Marie worked many years in the family’s business, Appalachian Outdoor Advertising Co., Inc. Marie served on the board of the Patterson School Foundation and she was a founding member of the Hogan Family Foundation.
Memorials may be made to Caldwell County Hospice or the First Presbyterian Church in Lenoir. A graveside service will be conducted at BelleView Cemetery in Lenoir on Sunday, August 26, 2012 at 2:00 pm. A Memorial Service will follow at 3:00 pm on Sunday at the First Presbyterian Church in Lenoir. The family will receive friends at the Church following the Memorial Service.
