Randall "Randy" Bruce Greene, 70, of Lenoir, passed peacefully in the arms of Jesus on Sunday, April 26, 2026. Randy was born on March 9, 1956, in Caldwell County to the late Leonard Morris Greene and Ila Minton Greene.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers Leonard Carl Greene, Junior Wayne Greene, and Larry Greene.
Left to cherish Randy's memory are his wife and best friend of 40 years Mitzi Hutchings Greene; his sons Christopher Ryan Greene (wife Sarah), Randall Scott Greene, and Cody Lee Greene; his daughter Hollie Alisa Greene; his brothers Ray Greene (wife Loretta) and Ricky Greene (wife Rebekah); his sister Geraldine Cline (husband Floyd); his grandchildren Trevor Fuller, Elijah Cicmil, Zoey and Courtlyn Greene, and Tyler and Mackenzie Deviney; several great-grandchildren; and his beloved dog Norman.
Randy was passionate about his faith, family, and friends. He stressed faithfulness to the Lord. He has left a legacy of laughter, loyalty, and love.
Starting at a young age, Randy worked as an upholsterer at Broyhill Plant 3, Fairfield Chair, and retiring at Grand Manor Furniture after 45 years in the industry.
Throughout his entire life - he found strength in the Gospel. He was humble and sincere. He not only shared the Gospel, he lived it.
Many lives have been touched through his ministry in Caldwell Prison Ministries to inmates, their families, and the staff of Caldwell Correctional Center. He began his ministry there as a volunteer in early 1995. He became Chaplain in 2012, and served as Chaplain until he took his last breath. During his last months, he was on oxygen and was extremely sick- but determined "to be faithful to the end." He often told us "There is no retiring from God's army. When it's time to retire, the Lord will carry you home."
Randy also ministered at Shaire Center every Sunday morning for almost 40 years, leading the singing, and sharing the Gospel on Sunday mornings, and giving hugs to all the residents and staff when they gathered for their worship service. Several years ago, he began ministering to both the nursing home side and the rehab side, holding 2 services each Sunday morning.
There is no record of how many lives have been touched, and forever changed because of his faithfulness and determination to win souls. He will surely be missed by his family, his friends and those who became family through his ministry. Everyone who knew him remembers his most favorite quotes, "It's All About Jesus!!" "Keep Praying!!"
In Randy's free time - if he had any - he rode, built, repaired and loved his VWs. Randy, along with Mitzi sitting by his side rode the dune buggy or the VW bus thousands of miles with friends regardless of the weather. They attended VW shows, and participated in fundraising rides and joy rides. Randy and Mitzi would leave the house on a day off and just end up in Kentucky, Virginia, or South Carolina, or anywhere they decided they would like to go. They loved and cherished spending time with each other- no matter where they went.
Randy also decided to take up hiking during Covid, and talked Mitzi into going with him. Randy and Mitzi hiked Rough Ridge, Catawba Falls, Beacon Heights, Moses Cone Fire Tower, Linville Falls, and many others - many times.
He loved to plant flowers with his sister Gerri Cline. They planted rose bushes and other plants throughout the yard; this was their special time together. Randy would call Ray for electrical help advice and Ricky for mechanical issues, He had his son Cody on speed dial for phone or computer issues. If he needed a VW T-shirt, he called Hollie. Chris and Scott were summoned for wood splitting. He really just loved to hear their voices. Randy loved his wife, brothers, and his sister, and his children and other family dearly. Each one of them was very special to him. They were all so very good to Randy, checking on him and making sure he had what he needed. Their devotion will never be forgotten.
Throughout the years, Randy and Mitzi spent most of their time together. They loved each other and the life God allowed them to have together. They were best friends to the end - celebrating 40 years of a loving marriage on April 12, 2026. They got married - had children, canoed, traveled, hiked, rode the VW's and worked hard in the ministry together - always side by side, and loving it. This loss is unimaginable, but God has a plan. Randy's work was done. God took him home. He is no longer struggling in pain. While in the hospital, sedated, he was singing, "There's Something About That Name" and quoting Scripture, Isaiah 40:31 "But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint." From the abundance of the heart the mouth speaketh. God healed him. Randy would want his family and friends to know - you must be born again. If you are - you will see him again. Please pray for the family and friends who are suffering from this tremendous loss.
The family will receive friends from 2:00 PM until 4:00 PM on Sunday, May 3, 2026 at Pendry's Lenoir Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be held at 4:15 PM on Sunday, May 3, 2026, in the Chapel of Pendry’s Lenoir Funeral Home with the Pastor Rick Bowman officiating.
