

Ruth Freda Oliver Fox, age 92, of Lenoir, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by her loving family, on Wednesday, August 30, 2017.
Mrs. Fox was born on January 21, 1925, in Mercer County, WVA, to the late James Norton Oliver and Mary Etta Harrell Oliver. She was a member of Cross Roads Baptist Church in Lenoir and worked many years as a secretary for a law firm in Rockville, MD and as a town clerk in Manteo, NC.
Mrs. Fox was a very loving lady who enjoyed socializing with family and friends. She enjoyed cooking and was known for her special coffee cakes. Mrs. Fox was a smart woman who loved her work and was especially good with numbers. She was an energetic, fun-loving person and she was always ready for any adventure.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, James Collins; a daughter, Mary Alice Collins; and a sister, Lorraine Scott.
Left behind to cherish her memory are her husband of 52 years, William Fox of Lenior; a son, Stephen Collins and a daughter, Judith Collins, both of Mooresville, NC; a sister, Louise Ferguson, of Panama City, FL; grandchildren, Michael Melvin of Raleigh, NC and Sarah Collins, of Mooresville, NC; special friend and caregiver, Jean King, of Gamewell; and eleven adopted grandchildren.
A Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, September 2, 2017, at Pendry’s Lenoir Funeral Home at 2:00 PM ,with Reverends Danny Wright and Leonard Younce officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow the service at Blue Ridge Memorial Park in Lenoir.
The family, respectfully requests that friends do not bring food dishes to the home. Memorials may be made to Caldwell Hospice and Palliative Care and/or the charity of your choice.
