ERNEST ARTHUR (PAT) HEAVEN, beloved husband to Lola Heaven, known for his gentle spirit and dry sense of humour, died surrounded by family April 12, 2007 at the age of 90 years. Pat is survived by his sweet heart of 70 years, Lola, children Tricia Rasku (Reino), Don Heaven (Vernet), Diana McWilliams (Don), eight grandchildren and eight great grandchildren and other loved ones.
Pat (Grandad) was born August 1, 1916 in Grand Forks B.C. where he spent many days swimming in the Kettle River, playing baseball with childhood pal Mickey, and competing in various Track and Field events. Pat was a superb athlete, running in the Olympic trials at Vancouver in 1936. Pat and Lola were married November 30th 1940 and Pat went off to war a year later. Pat was a bomber pilot with the RCAF, bringing his crew of six “Heaven’s Angels” home, safe and sound after 30 operations while earning a Distinguished Flying Cross.
Pat earned his way through life as a farmer, miner, salesman, school caretaker and Real Estate Agent. He believed in the value of a hard day’s work and never backed down from a challenge. He loved to camp, hunt, fish, pick huckleberries, play cards and especially loved playing tennis with his grandchildren at 6:30 in the morning. Pat will be remembered as a gentle soul who loved spending time with family, spending time with nature and eating a good dessert. We miss you Grandad.
Funeral services will be held in the chapel at Christensen Salmon Funeral Home, 327 - 10 Street South, Lethbridge, at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 21, 2007.
