Dora grew up in Colbert, Oklahoma and attended nursing school at Scott & White in Temple where she became a registered nurse. She moved to the Lubbock area and met the love of her life, Eugene Goheen. They were married on April 8, 1950, and lived in Abernathy. Their pride and joy were their two daughters, Beth and Jane.
Dora was preceded in death by her husband, Gene; and her brothers, James, Joe and Paul.
She will be lovingly remembered by her daughters, Beth Osburn (Richard) and Jane James (Ron), as well as her sister, Bill "Auntie" Turner. Dora will also be fondly remembered by her grandchildren: Sarah Osburn, Melissa Osburn, Jessica Wright, Frank James and Stacy Galvan, as well as numerous great-grandchildren.
As a farmer's wife and a nurse, Dora embodied the feistiness, hospitality and grit of West Texas. After over 30 years working for the Texas Department of Health, Dora retired to Levelland to be near her family.
She enjoyed her dog Lily, cooking, sewing, crossword puzzles and chickens. You could usually find her relaxing in her chair and watching television, where she was adept at changing the input on the remote control and losing the satellite connection (LOL).
It was Dora's request that her life be remembered by family and friends in a simple ceremony. Graveside services will be held Saturday, February 23, 2019 at 10 a.m. at Abernathy Cemetery. Fellowship followed at the Abernathy Church of Christ, where she was formerly a member.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the New Mexico Christian Children’s Home at Portales.
