

Funeral services for Dorothy Jean Smith, 81, of Levelland will be 2:00 PM, Thursday, March 22, 2012 at College Avenue Baptist Church, Levelland with her nephew, Reverend Tim Smith, of Newtown, Pennsylvania, officiating. Burial will be in City of Levelland Cemetery under direction of George Price Funeral Home. The family will receive visitors at the funeral home on Wednesday, March 21, 2012 from 5:30 until 7:30 pm. She died Monday, March 19, 2012 in Levelland, Texas.
She was born on May 17, 1930 in Sudan, Texas to D. E. and Opal Nina (West) McCarty. Dorothy was raised in Sudan and graduated from Sudan High School. She then worked as a telephone operator in Littlefield for a short time. She married J. C. Smith on May 30, 1952 in Clovis, New Mexico and he preceded her in death on January 9, 2000. She and Jay owned and operated the Bounty Restaurant for 38 years. Dorothy enjoyed her church and going to lunch with her Sunday School class after church on Sundays and she particularly enjoyed her Saturday night suppers with her children and grandchildren.
Survivors include her daughter: Sharon Lee and her husband, Jack of Levelland, her son: Ronny Smith and his wife Jeanne of Levelland, five grandchildren: Derek, Landon and Lindsey Lee, Conner Smith and Stacey McCormick and a great granddaughter: Denver McCormick and eight nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her brother: Macky McCarty in April of 2000.
