Gary was a co-worker and a wonderful friend of mine for 8 years. He never failed to make me laugh and was always  sharing his candy and cookies with me. I called him  candyman. I loved hearing his stories and trying out his cooking skills when we had potluck. I don't know if I would have  stayed working there for that long if it wasn't for Gary . whenever I have a snickerdoddle I will think of him. He will be missed.

No words can describe how I felt about Gary. He was my very special friend; however, due to our miles apart, we lost touch with each other. One thing I know is Gary had one of the most infectious, loving smiles, & always saw the positives in life. He did love his family and his friends, & always told me his "Ledley & friends' stories" which made me laugh 'til I'd snort. I have no doubt he's in Heaven making everyone laugh. I shall miss my friend very much. Always, gwyn

Ledlie,you were the best friend to Gary that anyone ever had. I know his loss hurts you deeply. I wish I could give you a big hug. I admire the friend you were. You two were inspirational.

My cousins, Duke and Gary, were such a part of my life growing up that I could not separate them from my brother Leland. They tormented me, adored me, made me laugh, made me cry, but they were always there. It is inconceivable to me that I am the only one of the four of us left. When Gary was in the Air Force,I was 13. I wrote him long, stupid letters every week. He thought I was such a dork. But he treasured those lettersand I treasured having him to talk to at that age. I will always have his laugh in my heart.

Such a great guy, Gary was one of those people that never changed no matter how many years passed between seeing each other. He had the gift of turning any occasion into a party.  Gary's passing leaves an empty place in all our lives.

My brother Gary leaves a void in my life and will until I see him again!!  

One of several stories about Gary. My son,  Gary and I were trolling the lake at night  circling an island.  Gary kept saying that the island was a peninsula and he could walk back to marina from the actual island shore.  We kept telling that it was an island but he disagreed.  One year later he came back to lake and my friends and I placed a large banner on the island that read "Gary's Island".  I took him for boat ride and passed by the sign on the island and Gary would not quit laughing for some time. Yes from then on the island is called "Gary's Island" with all of my lake friends.

I am very sad to hear about Gary. I have lots of memories of fun times shared with him from the 5th grade on. One of the funniest things I recall was once when it snowed in Levelland, Gary, Ledlie, and myself were taking turns riding Led's snowmobile in the schoolyard. Gary's Dad saw us from across the street, and he came over to take a ride. While he was riding we started pelting him with snowballs, he lost control, and ran into a telephone pole! He wasn't hurt, and we laughed our heads off at him. The snowmobile was out of commission though.  I visited him in Omaha when he was in the Air Force, and we had a great time. In the last 10 years or so on holiday trips to LL, I would always go by Gary's, watch football with him, and catch up. He had a great sense of humor and distinctive laugh that was contagious. It was fun just talking to him. I always looked forward to visiting him, and I'll miss greatly. He was a great guy and great friend. RIP my friend.

I am sorry to hear about Gary. My best memories  I shared with him were the football gatherings and the card games with all of our friends. We shared plenty of laughs and good times. It's sad to look back on our losses. David, Lorna, Scott, Gary Stanley, Jill, now Gary.  My prayers and thoughts  are with the Sonnenburg family. May he Rest in Peace.

I am certain I speak for so many that knew Gary Sonnenburg, when I say that Gary was truly one of the nicest, kindest, and most generous friends one could ever hope to know. Though years would pass between the times we would see each other, Gary never changed over the course of those years. He had an open door policy, ready to visit. When we did get the opportunity to visit,  he talked of football, he would also include some hilarious story that would have you in stitches, he always mentioned his best friend Ledlie, and he never once failed to ask how my family was doing. Gary was a kind man with a great big heart, and he will be missed.
