

Military graveside services for Gary Sonnenburg, 61, of Levelland was held Tuesday, September 8, 2015 at the City of Levelland Cemetery with Chaplain Michael Kenny officiating. Gary passed away September 3, 2015 in Lubbock. He was born in Lubbock, Texas September 29, 1953 and lived in Levelland all of his life. He spent the summers in Buffalo Gap with his grandparents and loved fishing and catching frogs there. Gary graduated from Levelland High School. During the summer of high school he spent time in Ruidoso, New Mexico with his friend Ledlie Powell and family. He joined the Air Force and was stationed in Offet, Nebraska. He was honorably discharged after three years as a Master Staff Sargent. After the service he went to South Plains College and became a welder. He worked on trucks in the oilfield industry, and in later years drove trucks for Titan. He is survived by 2 nephews, Devin of Kentucky and Jeremy of Staten Island, NY; step-mother, Audie Sonnenburg of Lubbock; step-brother Guy Thomas of Nacogdoches; and best friend, Ledlie Powell. He was preceded in death by his dad R.L. (Duke), brother R.L. (Duke) Jr., mom Freda, and step-sister T.J. Etchison.
