JL "Heavy" Slaughter, 95 passed away Wednesday October 5, 2016 in Alexandria, Virginia. Prior to his death, he was honored on the South Plains Honor Flight in Washington D.C. and placed a wreath at the site of the World War II Memorial. JL was born April 1, 1921 to James Alvia and Dola Waits Slaughter in Terrell, Kaufman County, Texas. JL married Doris Murphy on December 1, 1945 in Glassboro, New Jersey. He later Married Betty Hackler on November 19, 2005 in Levelland. Survivors include his wife, Betty Slaughter of Levelland; son, Bruce Slaughter and wife Patti of Levelland. Three grandchildren; Jody Slaughter and wife Amy of Lubbock; Dusty Slaughter and wife Devan of Levelland; and Hayley Brown and husband, Josh of Levelland. Four great-grandchildren; Brooklyn, Blake, Logan and Cheyenne. JL is also survived by two bonus daughters, Jeanettia Dudley and husband, Ricky of Levelland, and Debra Lobstein and husband, Glenn of Lamesa. Eight bonus grandchildren; Rebekah Slentz and husband, Jake of McKinney; Jonathan Dudley and wife Tara of Roswell; Crystal Chapman and husband, Kyle of San Angelo; Lee James of Chandler; Bruce Wilcox of Levelland; Larkin Brown of Littlefield; Tracy Murcheski of Lubbock; and Aaron Murcheski of Lubbock; 12 bonus great-grandchildren; Preston, Julie, Spencer, Mason, Amri, Winton, Wyatt, Sienna, Caeley, Landry, Kendyll and Layton. JL grew up in Kermit and served his country in the Indianapolis, Washington and Alaska during World War II and was honorably discharged from the United States Navy in November of 1945. He was a member of Second Baptist Church in Levelland and was an avid domino player. JL was preceded in death by his wife Doris Murphy Slaughter, James and Dola Slaughter; twin sisters, Evelyn and Kathryn; and son, David Slaughter. Visitation will be Monday, October 10, 2016 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at George Price Funeral Home in Levelland. Family and friends will gather to celebrate his life on Tuesday, October 11, at
