

Marjory Lou Martschinske Matak, age 85, of Levelland, Texas, passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by her family. Funeral services will be Saturday, September 19, 2015 at 2:00 pm at St. Paul Lutheran Church with Rev. Lee Weldon Stephenson and Rev. Michael J. Holmes officiating. Interment in the City of Levelland Cemetery.
Mrs. Matak was born on December 30, 1929 to the late William Valentine and Lillian (Grau) Martschinske in Orient, South Dakota. She grew up on a farm south of Faulkton, South Dakota. In her early 20’s, she moved to Aberdeen and worked in the dry cleaning industry. She then moved to Washington state where she worked for Woolworth’s. After switching dance partners with her best friend one night, she met and married the love of her life; Sgt. Alvin Matak. They wed at the Post Chapel at Ft. Lewis, Washington, on February 16, 1952.
The couple moved 24-times and lived throughout Texas, Louisiana and England, with the Army and Magnolia/Mobil Oil Company. They settled in Levelland in 1970. Mrs. Matak ironed for the public for many years and was active in the home demonstration club. She enjoyed playing bingo, slot machines and fishing. She was a devout Lutheran and member of St. Paul Lutheran Church for over 45 years. She was a strong and faithful woman and could light up a room with her smiles.
She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Lillian Martschinske; brothers, Edward, Delmar and Keith.
She is survived by her beloved husband of 63 years, Alvin; daughters, Mrs. Jesse (Darlys) Hale of Levelland, Texas, Mrs. Ricky (Brenda) Cookston of Wolfforth, Texas; four grandchildren, Mrs. Marlon (Jennifer) Franklin, of Bushland, Mrs. Randall (Jackie) Garrett of Benbrook, Mr. Jared Cookston, of Levelland, Texas and Miss Kelsey Cookston, of Wolfforth, Texas; great grandsons, Cannon and Callan Garrett; sisters, Mrs. Frank (Carol) Kiefer, of Faulkton, South Dakota and Mrs. Joyce Bieber of Pecatonica, Il; numerous nieces and nephews and friends she considered family.
Visitation will be Friday, September 18, 2015 from 6-8 pm at the Funeral Home.
