She was born on April 27, 1934, to Charles and Mary Alice Bowen of Post, Texas. She graduated from Post High School in 1951 and attended Hardin Simmons University and later graduated from Texas Tech University in 1955. She married the late Thomas V. Copeland in 1956, and they made their home in Levelland Texas following his graduation from Texas A&M University in 1958.
Mrs. Copeland taught English in the Levelland ISD for 28 years. She impacted many lives during her teaching career, and loved every aspect of education. She taught 7th grade English as well as High School English, and had a particular love for English Literature. Teaching was her passion, and she excelled in every level of her vocation. She was an avid reader, and always kept books by her chair to read in her spare time. She instilled a love for reading into her children, as well as an overwhelming love for music.
She was a member of First Baptist Church in Levelland, where she and her family were active for many years. She taught adult Sunday School classes and was active in many different ministries, including the Sonshine Choir, which she really loved.
She is preceded in death by her husband Tom, and one daughter, Lynn Allyn.
Survivors include her children, Tom Copeland and wife Lori of Abilene, Texas; Glenn Copeland and wife Debbie of Carbon, Texas; Lanny Copeland and wife Lisa of Lubbock, Texas; and Laurie White of Bedford, Texas. She is also survived by 9 loving grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.
A memorial service is scheduled for Wednesday, February 21 at 11:00 am at the First Baptist Church in Levelland.
